Thunderbird can find the server settings itself from the automatic setup (autoconfig) record on your domain. If you've added that record, you only enter your name, address and password.
Adding the account
- On a new install, Thunderbird asks for your account when it first opens. Otherwise open ≡ › New Account › Existing Email.
- Enter your name, your email address (e.g.
alex@yourcompany.com) and the mailbox's password. - Click Continue. When Thunderbird finds the settings it offers an IMAP account; confirm and click Done.
Entering settings by hand
If Thunderbird can't find the settings, choose Configure manually and enter:
| Server | Port | Security | Authentication | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Incoming (IMAP) | mx.basicmailer.com | 993 | SSL/TLS | Normal password |
| Outgoing (SMTP) | mx.basicmailer.com | 587 | STARTTLS | Normal password |
The username is your full email address for both.
If your domain doesn't have the automatic setup record, adding it takes a minute and makes every future setup easier: a CNAME record named autoconfig pointing to autoconfig.basicmailer.com. Details: Email DNS records.
Sending from an alias
Add the alias (e.g. info@yourcompany.com) as a new identity under Manage Identities in the account settings. You can then pick it in the From field when writing. Details: Email aliases.
If something goes wrong
Go through the checks in Mail app keeps asking for password.
