Help Center menu

This page covers adding your BasicMailer mailbox to Outlook for Windows. Microsoft has two Outlooks: new Outlook and classic Outlook. If you're not sure which you have, try the new Outlook steps first; if the menus don't match, you're on classic Outlook.

Have these ready:

Email addressalex@yourcompany.com
PasswordThe mailbox's password or an app password
Incoming (IMAP)mx.basicmailer.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
Outgoing (SMTP)mx.basicmailer.com, port 587, STARTTLS

New Outlook

  1. On the View tab, select View settings, or on the File tab, select Account info.
  2. Select Accounts › Your accounts.
  3. Under Email accounts, select Add Account, enter your email address and select Continue.
  4. If Outlook asks for the account type, choose IMAP.
  5. Enter the settings from the table: incoming server, port 993 and SSL/TLS; outgoing server, port 587 and STARTTLS. Use your full email address as the username and the mailbox's password.
  6. Select Continue and finish.

Classic Outlook

  1. Select File › Add Account.
  2. Enter your email address, open Advanced options and check Let me set up my account manually. Select Connect.
  3. Choose IMAP as the account type.
  4. Enter mx.basicmailer.com, port 993, encryption SSL/TLS for incoming mail, and mx.basicmailer.com, port 587, encryption STARTTLS for outgoing mail.
  5. Select Next, enter the mailbox's password and select Connect.
Tip

If your domain has the Outlook automatic setup record, Outlook may find the server settings itself and only ask for your address and password. The record: Email DNS records.

If something goes wrong

  • "Wrong password": is the username your full email address, and is it the mailbox's password rather than your dashboard password? Details: Mail app keeps asking for password.
  • You receive but can't send: try port 465 with SSL/TLS for outgoing mail.
