Your plan sets the number of domains and users, your sending credits, your hourly and daily sending limits and your total storage. See the values and how much you've used on Usage & billing in the dashboard.
Sending credits
Every message you send uses as many sending credits as it has recipients: 1 recipient = 1 credit. Every address in To, Cc and Bcc counts; a message to three people uses 3 credits.
- Recipients hosted on BasicMailer count too, including addresses on your own domain.
- Mail forwarded to outside addresses uses 1 credit per target outside BasicMailer; forwarding to an address on BasicMailer uses none.
- Mail you receive uses no credits.
- Credits belong to the account, not the mailbox: all your mailboxes send from the same credits.
There are two kinds:
| Credits | Where they come from | When they end |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly credits | Included with your plan (Monthly credits on a monthly plan, Trial credits on the trial) | Reset to your plan's amount at the start of each period; unused credits don't carry over |
| Extra credits | Bought in the dashboard | Never expire; usable while your subscription runs |
Yearly credits are used first, then extra credits.
If a message never left our server, its credits come back: when the spam filter stopped it, sending failed or our sending server did not accept a recipient. A recipient the receiving server bounced keeps its credit used; that message did leave.
Buying extra credits
- On Usage & billing, select Buy sending credits.
- Type an amount or pick one of the suggestions. The dialog shows the price ranges and the total; the more you buy, the less 1,000 credits cost.
- Select Continue to payment and pay on Polar's page.
You then return to the dashboard and the credits are added within seconds. Only active accounts on a paid plan can buy extra credits; on the trial you subscribe instead.
Extra credits:
- Are frozen if your subscription ends, and usable again when you subscribe again.
- Are deleted with your account.
- Can't be exchanged for cash or moved to another account.
- Can be refunded for the unused part within 30 days of buying them; used credits aren't refunded. To ask for a refund, write to support@basicmailer.com.
If used extra credits are refunded, your extra balance goes below zero. Until that is closed you can use that many fewer yearly credits; when the period ends, the yearly credits you did not use close it. Extra credits you buy while below zero close it first too.
When credits run low or run out
When your available credits drop to 10% of your yearly credits, we email your account's address once, and once more when they run out.
When they run out:
- Mail sent from your mailboxes is not sent: your mail app shows a sending error, and the message shows as Not sent on the Sent mail page. Send it again after adding credits or once the new period starts.
- If a message has more recipients than credits left, only as many recipients as credits are accepted and your mail app shows an error for the rest. Depending on the app, the message then goes to the accepted recipients or isn't sent at all.
- Incoming mail keeps arriving.
- Forwards to outside addresses are held and go out on their own once credits are added. If they can't go within 1 day, the sender gets a "could not be delivered" notice.
To keep sending, buy extra credits or wait for the new period.
Hourly and daily limits
Besides credits, your account has an hourly and a daily sending limit. They also count per recipient and per account:
| Limit | How it's counted |
|---|---|
| Last hour | The past 60 minutes |
| Last 24 hours | The past 24 hours |
Once a limit is reached, new mail is not sent: your mail app shows a sending error, and the message isn't queued for later. A notice also appears at the top of the dashboard. Because the windows roll back from now, you can send again as older messages drop out of the window. Buying credits doesn't raise these limits.
BasicMailer is for personal and business correspondence. Bulk and marketing email isn't allowed.
Message size
A message you send can be at most 25 MB. Attachments grow by about a third when sent, so keep their total under about 18 MB; webmail lets you attach at most 18 MB per message.
Storage
Storage belongs to the account and all mailboxes share it; mailboxes have no separate quota. The Storage row on Usage & billing shows the total for all mailboxes. When it's full you can't add new users and new incoming mail is refused; delete old mail to free up space.
Monthly report and credit history
The report at the bottom of Usage & billing covers the last 6 months: how many recipients you sent to and how many sends were refused, for each month. The Sending credit history table lists credits given, bought, refunded and expired.
