Gmail is the most common mail app on Android, and it can hold non-Gmail accounts too. This page covers adding your BasicMailer mailbox to the Gmail app over IMAP.
Have these ready:
| Email address | alex@yourcompany.com |
| Password | The mailbox's password or an app password |
| Incoming server (IMAP) | mx.basicmailer.com, port 993, SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing server (SMTP) | mx.basicmailer.com, port 587, STARTTLS |
Adding the account
- Open the Gmail app.
- Tap your profile picture at the top right and choose Add another account.
- Choose Other.
- Enter your email address and tap Manual setup.
- Choose Personal (IMAP) and enter the mailbox's password.
- Incoming server settings: username your full email address, server
mx.basicmailer.com, port993, security type SSL/TLS. - Outgoing server settings: sign-in required with the same username and password; server
mx.basicmailer.com, port587, security type STARTTLS. - Choose how often to sync and finish.
Note
Menu names can differ slightly depending on your Android version and phone maker. Whatever the wording, choose IMAP as the account type and enter the server details from the table.
If something goes wrong
- If Gmail warns that security isn't guaranteed, don't set the security type to None; check the server name and port instead. BasicMailer always uses encrypted connections.
- If the password is refused: Mail app keeps asking for password.
